As you can see, i’ve just discovered Lego Photo on the iPhone! Pretty nifty app which brings the whole brand proposition + fun to an app. In this day and age, nobody needs another photo app, but when you get to be made up of lego bricks, that’s quite cool
Really nifty stuff. Now go get yours…

Was chatting with my fren online and he recommended this iPhone mapping software – RunKeeper which allows you to track your running/cycling trips. Best of all, it maps it onto your personal page in their portal using Google Maps. Fwah, the iPhone is indeed changing the world one app at a time! Very cool indeed.
Installation was super simple too, no lengthy registration forms. Just enter your email address and password and you’re up. Amazingly the app is Free! There’s a paid version with some additional features like audio prompts etc but i’m pretty happy with just getting the distance, speed, location and timing mapped out digitally.
Made my maiden run with the app today on the Scott P4. Good stuff…
Sample route.
Great! I’ve finally got my backup files to run properly on the server. Unfortunately, i’ve just lost all the postings from Jan 1 til now. Well, i guess you can’t win ‘em all.
Wow, its been awhile since i’ve written anything. Many things have been happening in the office which has thrown me into a loop. So i’ve been crazily busy the last month or so. Just saw my previous post and wanted to post a link on my new project – net.acma.sg
Am in the draft stage of this new site for NET and the basic info has been migrated from the old site. Guess i’m just pending some design help and eventually i can load in more bells and whistles to the site too.
Joomla has been fairly easy to implement. As with all tech projects, you need the discipline to read through the installation docs. It also requires you to have a basic understanding of how to purchase a virtual host, domain name and use FTP to load in the files.
Setting up a content structure from scratch might have been a bit confusing so i do recommend loading in the sample data so that all the navigation and articles show in the right place, and then you can change all the content as necessary.
So far i’m pretty impressed with the simple plug-ins i found so far, like the main graphic on the homepage which cross-fades the banners and allows text to be overlayed so you can create titles over it.

Always had this idea that the Esplanade and Swissotel made a great phallic shot. My opportunity came along when we were hearded up a duck-tour recently. Not sure how, but the iPhone even gave a little hazy fish-eye lens effect at the edges
Some cynics may think this is the ultimate symbol of this country where the citizens get done over in many ways.
Enjoy!

I’ve finally got my hands on one and I just wanted to say that the SG iPhone 3G launch experience for me has lived up to my Apple expectations of being user-friendly and no-fuss. The process basically went like this:
Pre-launch – Singtel created a website to accept interest
Launch – The tier 1 customers were invited to the launch event
- Others were invited to a website to make appointments at various outlets over the next few weeks
- Just one day before my appointed time, I received an SMS saying that i could now just go to any of the selected outlets to get one (I guess the crowds had dissipated and there wasn’t a need to manage it so tightly anymore). I went down to the main outlet after work, queued for about 20 min which is pretty normal anyway, signed a couple of forms, paid up and got out.
So now I’ve got my hands on it and i didn’t have to queue for hours or anything! That to me is great
Can never imagine all those news reports of people queueing for days for the opening of StarWars or the launch of Xbox or whatever.
Now i just have to await the number portability approval from M1.
Have been reading up a bit more about that Joomla app which i wrote about earlier and I’m pleasantly surprised that there is now a PHP/MySQL type simulator for MacOSX. You can now demo and run some of your webserver apps on your Mac! (There is however a security warning that you shouldn’t just port everything over into your webserver and run this as a PRD version because the security settings etc are not setup.)
So that of course gave me great impetus to spend more hours fiddling with this Joomla thing and its fairly user-friendly, but because its a full CMS suite by nature, you need to understand the concepts of the hierachy of the website you are building i.e. article vs section vs category before you can get round to linking something up on a demo site. Its not so straight-forward as a WordPress type tool basically.
Some useful links if you’re also into this:

Joomla! Quick start guide
Overall i’m still impressed with what the tool is capable of and the whole range of extensions it has for the platform, but first I’ve got to figure out how to set up all the bells and whistles in the core functionality.
Have been doing some research on content management systems and Joomla seems really user-friendly and there are a whole bunch of templates you can plug and play with that look really cool. Have been out of touch with techie stuff for abit and its an eye-opener to see that stuff that could have cost up to 100k during the dot com days are now going for Free! Guess you really can’t beat free.
Isn’t it ironic that food prices are going up but prices for software is going down…

If you’re on facebook, you probably got this from me. It wasn’t supposed to go out to absolutely everyody i know.. but alas i thought that it was a 2-step process by clicking the “post” button looking for the space to type the message and… voom it sent to all.
So anyhow, it was kinda incomplete but i didn’t want to spam everybody with a second one, so here’s the message:
Its been a milestone year for me, lots of things have happened in my life, in and out of the office, church, band. Physically, spiritually things have been on the move too. Many of you have various changes happening too, new kids on the way, new houses, new career considerations etc.
Let’s all just take a deep breath and pause for a minute and enjoy Christmas as it was meant to be amidst all the parties. The baby in the manger is really the best present anyone can get… if you believe. So keep on keeping on and may your wishes for the next year come true!
Cheers!
The job brief goes out to your development department to build a house. After years of development, the main contractor asks you to go take a look at the “almost finished” product. You just need to do verify that this is a house and we can hand it over.
“Where is the roof?” You say.
“Why doesn’t the door have a lock?”
“Why are there no rooms in the house?”
Then u spend 20 days convincing them that a roof is essential because it keeps out the rain. You also have to spend 20 days following this guy around mark out the area where the walls will be because apparently they can’t read blueprints. You also spend 20 days arguing with the locksmith on whether the lock should be accessible from the outside or the inside of the house.
In between all these arguments you also spend 20 days arguing whose jobs it should be to build the roof, put in the walls and the lock in the first place.
Finally due to the lack of time, you let the first tenants move in and you convince them the roof will be part of phase 2. And not only that, they need to draft the requirments they want for the roof, should it be brick, should it be slate, what colour does it have to be?
Welcome to the world of cyber-coolies!
